I’m sitting here playing with Bill when it occurs to me: I know I’m a starseed, but what about Bill?
Is Bill a starseed?
So naturally, I ask everybody.
I ask Bill.
“No. Non-starseed.”
I ask the Blues.
“Look it up.”
Everybody is telling me the same thing: Look. It. Up.
So now, obviously, I’m going down a cosmic-cat rabbit hole.
And honestly, cats might be one of the most fascinating domesticated animals on Earth. There are all kinds of spiritual and metaphysical beliefs surrounding them—cats as protectors, energetic guardians, healers, and companions that somehow seem to know what is happening inside of us before we do.
And I get it. Because Bill absolutely feels like a protector of the inside.
Not necessarily the house. The inside.
The light. The love. The spirit. The energy of the place.
Cats are so strange because they can be unbelievably loving and attached to you one minute and then suddenly be like, Okay, that’s enough. See ya.
Bill can sleep with me every single night for months and then one night decide:
Not tonight, woman.
No explanation. No meeting. No discussion. And I respect it.
That independence fascinates me, especially with Bill, because he quite literally proved he could survive without me. He came from the streets.
And the streets left evidence.
Bill came to me with a little piece of his tongue missing, and I still tease him about it. Sometimes I’ll watch him trying to lick something, and I’m like:
“Streets. Streets.”
Because Bill has seen things. That little tongue is street cred.
I don’t know exactly what happened to him before he came into my life. I don’t know everywhere he went or everything he survived.
And maybe that’s part of what makes learning about cats so interesting to me right now. They carry these whole histories around inside of them that we will never completely know.
And really, don’t we all?
I started thinking about where Bill came from, which got me thinking about where I came from, which naturally sent me straight into the universe.
Because whatever you believe about souls, planets, starseeds, reincarnation, Source, God, or consciousness, there is something hilarious about how seriously we take these bodies when, from one perspective, we are basically just—
meat rolls with souls.
MEAT ROLLS WITH SOULS.
I’m sorry, but that is sending me.
Here we are, walking around Earth in these water-filled meat rolls, carrying consciousness around, trying to figure everything out.
And maybe we’re here to work. Maybe we’re here to learn. Maybe we’re here to connect. Maybe we’re also here to PLAY.
I think I needed to remember that this week. I have been incredibly subdued. Quiet. Introspective. Inward.
I’ve had to force myself to get out of the house and do things. Blogging has been hard. Expressing myself has been hard. That creative spark that usually feels so available to me just hasn’t been there.
But something I’m getting much better at is recognizing my ebb. I know when my flow has left the building.
And I’m learning not to chase it down the street screaming, COME BACK!
Because it comes back. There is an ebb, and then there is a flow.
And maybe the greatest difference now is that I don’t immediately assume something has gone wrong when I enter the ebb.
I talk about it. I tell people I trust, “My ebb is frustrating the hell out of me right now.”
I lean on people. I rest. I move my body. I exercise. I do yoga.
I drink my fluids—apparently I am extremely passionate about fluids right now.
And I try not to manufacture an explanation for something that might simply need to pass.
Sometimes there isn’t anything to solve. Sometimes you ride the wave.
And today, sitting here playing with my funny little street cat, wondering whether his soul has some intergalactic résumé I don’t know about, I felt a little spark come back.
Curiosity.
That’s usually how I know. When I want to learn again, I’m starting to flow again.
So I’m going to follow it.
I’m going to research cats, their spiritual history, their strange reputation as energetic protectors, and, of course, the mysterious phenomenon known as the Cat Distribution System.
And then I’ll report back.
Until then, Bill and I will be over here doing our respective Earth assignments.
Two souls.
Two completely different journeys.
Two meat rolls.
Although Bill would probably like it formally documented that he is significantly more sophisticated than that.
