The Healing Power of a Hug
Yesterday, before yoga began, I received something that I didn’t even know I needed.
A hug.
Not just a quick little squeeze, a pat on the back, or one of those half-hearted embraces where you’re already pulling away before you’ve even leaned in.
I’m talking about a real hug.
A long, intentional, loving embrace from Lauren.
And oh my gosh, did it feel good.
There is something so incredibly powerful about physical connection when it comes from a place of genuine love. No expectations, no agenda, no need for anything in return. Just two human beings sharing a moment of warmth, compassion, and care.
It was an exchange of symbiotic love.
And I swear, it recharged me.
It literally gave me extra battery life.
I walked away from that hug feeling energized, uplifted, and ready to take on the rest of my day. I wanted to go to my meeting, take care of myself, do my face mask and hair mask, and just keep pouring that good energy into everything I did.
All because of a hug.
How amazing is that?
We spend so much time trying to figure out how to feel better. We search for answers, routines, remedies, and ways to recharge ourselves. And sometimes the most powerful medicine is standing right in front of us with two open arms.
Human connection.
Love.
Touch.
Presence.
And it got me thinking about something I believe wholeheartedly.
You cannot love with fear. You have to love fearlessly.
Because when we put fear into love, we start putting conditions on something that is meant to flow freely.
We worry about being too affectionate, too vulnerable, too expressive, too much.
But what if we stopped worrying about all of that?
What if we just loved?
What if we hugged a little longer, listened a little closer, and allowed ourselves to be fully present with the people who cross our paths?
I’m not saying every hug is going to change your life. But I am saying that sometimes the smallest exchanges carry the biggest energy.
And when that energy comes from a place of genuine goodness, it has a way of multiplying.
Lauren gave me a hug, and I walked away with more love to give.
That’s the beauty of it.
Love isn’t something we have to hoard because we’re afraid of running out.
The more freely we share it, the more opportunities we create to experience it.
And isn’t that what this whole human experience is about?
Connecting. Giving. Receiving. Sharing ourselves with one another.
We are all walking around in these human bodies, navigating our own experiences and carrying our own stories. Sometimes all it takes is another person reminding us that we don’t have to carry everything alone.
Sometimes we just need to be held.
Sometimes we need to do the holding.
And sometimes we get to experience the beautiful exchange of both.
So here’s to longer hugs, open hearts, fearless love, and all the beautiful people who help recharge our batteries along the way.
Love fearlessly. Hug wholeheartedly. And never underestimate the healing power of a little human connection.
Because Brooks.
